For three years, Elsie Turner believed her marriage to Charles Bennett was happy, unaware she was merely a substitute for his first love, Karen Foster. On the day her father died, her 99 desperate calls to Charles went unanswered—he was in Paris, embracing Karen. After Karen's return, Charles repeatedly mistreated Elsie to protect Karen. When Karen later faced kidney failure, Charles forcibly took one of Elsie's kidneys for her. On the day of the surgery, Elsie resolutely left abroad with divorce papers in hand.
