Defying tribal bans, Ian tends to him through the night. From Edmund’s delirious ramblings, Ian learns the tragic story of his mother, and the tense dynamic between the two men softens subtly. Edmund stumbles across Ian’s hidden medical records and unpaid bills for his brother. At last he understands why Ian stole the sacred artifact. Wracked with guilt, he releases Ian from coercion, promises to destroy all incriminating evidence, and anonymously pays off every cent of the brother’s medical debt. This unexpected leniency leaves Ian conflicted. After visiting his brother, Ian realizes, prompted by the boy’s words, that he has developed feelings for Edmund. At the great hunting contest, Edmund is still weakened from his past injuries and performs poorly. Risking severe consequences, Ian calls out hints openly to help him bring down his quarry. That night at the bonfire celebration, ignoring every tribe member’s gaze, Edmund places his mother’s old wolf‑tooth mating necklace around Ian’s neck, openly defying his father. Furious, Warwick the Elder throws Ian into the prison cell and gives Edmund an ultimatum under tribal law: renounce Ian and keep his position as heir, or face heavy punishment alongside him. Edmund removes his clan insignia and renounces his inheritance. At dawn’s trial, Warwick presents the necklace as proof that Ian has “bewitched the heir”. Abusing his authority as chieftain, he accuses Ian of stealing the sacred relic with no physical evidence. Ian confesses without resistance and denounces Warwick for treating him as nothing more than disposable property. Edmund steps onto the trial platform and demands to bear equal blame. Warwick delivers a deadly verdict: the two must take part in the death‑sentence wasteland hunt on the full‑moon night. If they survive slaying the wasteland’s most ferocious lone wolf, all their crimes will be pardoned. Yet Warwick secretly follows them into the wilderness and sets poisoned spike traps to murder them. By misfortune, he triggers his own contraption and dies from his grave injuries. Ian and Edmund fight through blood and hardship to kill the lone wolf and make it out of the wasteland alive. Warwick’s body is recovered by tribesmen and buried according to ancient customs. Edmund reclaims his position as tribal chieftain and publicly accepts Ian as his partner. At the bonfire feast, Edmund puts the wolf‑tooth necklace back around Ian’s neck. They finally lay bare their hearts to one another and are free to stay together.
