Evelyn Harper and Lucas Sterling had been in love for seven years, and their relationship seemed stable. After a minor car accident, Evelyn suddenly had an idea and decided to pretend to have amnesia to test her boyfriend's true feelings. However, she never expected that Lucas not only showed no sign of concern but calmly 'pushed' her towards his good friend Asher Blackwood, claiming that Asher was her boyfriend while he himself was in a relationship with Evelyn's best friend, Chloe Vance.
Shocked and heartbroken, Evelyn quickly saw Lucas's true colors — the man she had been with for seven years had long been secretly seeing her best friend. But instead of exposing him on the spot, she chose to play along and accept the lie that 'Asher is her boyfriend.'
As for Asher, the brother Lucas had temporarily pushed her towards as a tool, he had secretly loved Evelyn for many years — even longer than Lucas and Evelyn had been together. Faced with this unexpected opportunity, he didn’t hesitate to play along, getting closer to her in the guise of a 'fake boyfriend.'
From then on, the four of them, each harboring their own motives, engaged in an intricate 'four-person tango.' Evelyn, fully aware of everything but pretending not to know, used Asher to continually provoke Lucas, enacting her revenge; Asher, aware of being used yet enjoying it, seized every chance to turn the pretend game into reality; Chloe thought she had won against Evelyn, but could never truly capture Lucas’s heart; and Lucas, the arrogant and narcissistic man deceived from start to finish, watched helplessly as the woman and brother he pushed away grew closer, moving step by step from jealousy to regret, from disbelief to mental collapse.
When the truth was finally revealed — Evelyn had never lost her memory; it was all her scheme — Lucas completely broke down and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. In his delusion, he tried to 'start over,' obsessively seeking to undo everything, only to realize that no matter what he did, fate would not change. Meanwhile, Evelyn had finally let go of the relationship entirely and came to understand Asher’s years of secret love and deep feelings, ultimately accepting his marriage proposal.
