Clarissa Remington, heiress to a New York fortune, was set up by her fiancé Adrian, who had her reputation destroyed so he could marry nightclub model Eleanor. Her childhood friend Malcolm proposed to her, but only to keep her under control and protect Eleanor—both men were in love with the same woman. When Clarissa overheard the truth, she ran straight to Doctors Without Borders in her wedding gown, signed the waiver, and flew into the war-torn heart of Libya. There, amid gunfire and chaos, she saved lives with her surgical skill and earned the respect—and love—of warlord Logan. Six months later, she returned to New York on Logan's arm for a charity gala, watching coldly as Eleanor bragged in the garden about how she had fooled both men—not knowing Adrian and Malcolm were standing right behind her. The truth came crashing down. Eleanor bled to death from a miscarriage. That night, the two men knelt in the snow outside the Remington mansion, clutching the amulets Clarissa had given them as children, and whispered her name until they died. She never looked back.
