I once saved 242 people from a raging fire, only to have them put me on trial. My husband accused me of killing his father. My own brother fabricated evidence against me. Every survivor I saved wanted me locked away for life. Then the burned rescue footage was restored, piece by piece. That was when they learned the truth. I shut off the sprinklers. I sealed the exits. I left my father-in-law behind. Every so-called piece of evidence against me was actually proof that I was saving lives. The exit I blocked wasn't an escape route. It was a death trap. The truth could clear my name. But it couldn't bring back the child I lost, or restore the trust they destroyed with their own hands. I don't want their forgiveness. I just want my life back.
