In a world falling apart, 23-year-old Abby makes her way home after being bitten and turned into a zombie. Her hard-headed, shotgun-toting mother, Linda, refuses to see a monster. To her, Abby is just a girl who stayed out too late, eats too little, and badly needs a bath. While the neighbors panic and a nervous sheriff warns her to hand Abby over, Linda fights back the only way she knows how: with folk remedies, tough love, and a pot of homemade stew. As Abby slowly heals and her mind flickers
