Series details

Margaret, a thirty-eight-year-old reference librarian, discovered a brass key in the desk drawer of her late mother's old house after her mother passed away from lung cancer. The key unlocked a brown leather-bound stamp album that had lain dusty and forgotten. Inside, dozens of stamps from 1978 traced a six-hundred-kilometer escape route—at twenty-four, her mother, suffering from years of domestic abuse at the hands of her own father, had fled her birth family with three-year-old Margaret in her arms, moving through six towns along the way. Margaret retraced each location marked by the stamps, taking photographs along the journey, and compiled her findings into a nonfiction manuscript titled The Runaway Stamps, which she published not for profit. When her biological father learned of the book, he sued her for defamation. Margaret submitted the complete chain of evidence—her mother's diary of abuse, hospital injury reports from 1978, and the full stamp album. Forensic document examination confirmed that none of the materials had been tampered with, and the court dismissed all of the father's claims. In the aftermath, the book resonated with countless readers who had lived through similar experiences. Local historians and cultural scholars even installed unsigned commemorative walking plaques along the original escape route. In the end, Margaret returned the stamp album to its place in her mother's old house. Every year, the pomegranate tree in the courtyard burst into bloom—an
