Aveline Beaulieu, the daughter of the founder of Minnesota biotech giant Aegis Bio-Health, holds 51% controlling shares of the group. Yet due to a marital trust set up by her father Ambrosius, her voting rights were entrusted to her husband Theron Pendelton during their marriage. For three years, she endured his infidelity and coldness as a full-time housewife.
Everything shattered on Father’s Day. Her seven-year-old daughter Cordelia brought a hand-carved gift to surprise Theron at his office, only to catch him cheating with his senior assistant Isolde. Isolde slapped Cordelia in public, while Theron just watched, calling his own daughter ill-mannered.
Theron’s retaliation came swiftly. He froze Aveline’s credit card, leaving her embarrassed at the supermarket checkout. He barred her from company premises and had security drag her out. He bribed school teachers to report Aveline for child abuse to CPS, which took Cordelia away. Aveline knelt and begged just to see her daughter, only to be slapped and humiliated in front of others. When she presented copies of her father’s equity agreement at the board meeting, Theron tampered with the review, questioned the signature’s authenticity and had her removed by guards. Her mother-in-law Ginevra mocked her, saying she was nothing without Theron. Veteran board member Alistair was placed under house arrest on false charges of leaking confidential data. Cordelia was taken by CPS a second time, and even her premarital property was frozen by Theron. Aveline fell into total isolation.
At her lowest point, Aveline received an encrypted message from her father Ambrosius, who was presumed dead for five years. He had faked his death under U.S. Marshals’ protection after surviving an assassination plot, leaving Alistair to safeguard legal documents and monitor Theron all along.
Reignited to fight back, Aveline evaded Theron’s private investigators. She tracked down former senior staff fired by Theron — Dr. Hale, Martha and Mr. Olsen. Winning their trust, she obtained solid evidence: Theron inflated raw material costs through shell companies and paid huge consulting fees to Ginevra under a dummy title. She also turned Claire, the marketing director discarded after being used by Theron, who handed over a USB drive with fake media contracts and suspicious fund transfers. Even Isolde switched sides after discovering Theron siphoned funds and abused her.
With all evidence ready, Aveline faced Theron in the equity confirmation court. Theron moved up the trial date and blocked Alistair from testifying, hoping to defeat her unprepared. But Aveline submitted a remote witness connection. Ambrosius appeared live in court, presenting the federally notarized original agreement and terminating the entire equity trust. The judge ruled Aveline as the sole legal controlling shareholder of Aegis.
Later, Aveline held a globally livestreamed press conference. She exposed Theron’s embezzlement of 55 million US dollars, the assault on her daughter and his forged psychiatric report to falsely accuse her of child abuse. His carefully crafted “wronged hero” image collapsed overnight. Theron was forced to sign the divorce settlement, permanently surrendering all custody and visitation rights for Cordelia.
The reckoning followed. Isolde was arrested by the FBI for unpaid debts and phone threats to kidnap Cordelia, sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. Theron was jailed for embezzlement, conspiracy to launder money and false accusations. Ginevra had to auction off the family estate and jewelry to raise bail money and suffered a stroke at the auction. Aveline reunited with her daughter. With Ambrosius’s guidance, she revitalized Aegis, pushing quarterly revenue up by 17% year-on-year.
The story closes with Aveline and Cordelia sharing ice cream by a lakeside park. Mother and daughter lean on each other, marking the triumphant end of this mother’s revenge battle.
