Elena, a shepherdess betrayed by her brother, unexpectedly becomes the "cure" capable of quelling the blood curse afflicting Duke Cassian, the werewolf lord. Their relationship evolves from mutual suspicion through a pragmatic exchange of interests to deep trust, leading them to unite against the oppressive system of enslavement and royal conspiracies. Elena burns the slave contract, liberates the controlled wolf pack, and upon her coronation as queen, abolishes the blood-marked slave contract, restoring freedom to the werewolves. Choosing each other on the foundation of equality and mutual consent, Elena and Cassian jointly safeguard a new kingdom.
