The wealthy heiress Bernice marries Rodney, only to suffer greatly after marriage, as he openly favors his childhood sweetheart Lindsey and her daughter Polly. Devastated and hurt, she divorces him and becomes a single mother. To give her daughter Cara a stable life, she agrees to reconcile with her ex-husband—but her heart is completely dead. She no longer gets jealous or argues, growing cold and compliant. This indifference drives Rodney to despair and regret. By then, Bernice has already pulled away entirely. She exposes and confronts the scheming mistress Lindsey, divorces Rodney decisively, and builds a successful handmade business, rising as a strong, independent woman. She starts a new life with her daughter, leaving the remorseful Rodney to lose them forever.
