Evelyn is the Saintess of the Avalon Diocese. She falls in love with Gareth, a low-born trainee knight. When Gareth is gravely wounded during the Holy War and lies on the verge of death, Evelyn defies the gods and binds her life force to Gareth’s soul, forming a sacred blood pact that ties their lives together.
Evelyn eventually marries Gareth as she wishes.
For the next five years, Evelyn takes care of Gareth’s parents at home while day and night using her own blood essence and holy light magic to nourish Gareth.
But Evelyn pays a brutal price for it. The young and beautiful Evelyn rapidly ages, her features withering until she looks like a shriveled old witch. Meanwhile, blessed by the power of holy light, Gareth becomes invulnerable to weapons on the battlefield, winning battle after battle. After earning countless military honors, he rises to become the youngest Temple Knight Commander in the empire.
Yet the Gareth who has achieved fame and glory changes completely.
Disgusted by Evelyn’s ugliness and old age, he decides to marry Claire, the Duke’s daughter. He not only unilaterally breaks off their marriage, but cruelly strips the weakened Evelyn of her Saintess robes and abandons her in the Black Forest, where vampire bats lurk.
Evelyn’s father, Samuel, the Grand Archbishop, senses that Evelyn has lost the protection of her Saintess robes and realizes that his daughter must be in danger. He leads a group of believers out of the Holy City to search for her.
Deep within the Black Forest, Evelyn is on the verge of death when Emperor Alexander of the Empire happens to pass through the area. Sensing that a pure holy light is fading away, he uses his magical power to sense that Evelyn is the Saintess. He then pours his own magic into her body, saving Evelyn’s life.
At that very moment, the Grand Archbishop and his followers track Evelyn’s spiritual energy and gradually make their way into the Black Forest. Sensing their approach, Alexander immediately transforms into black mist and disappears into the night.
Eventually, the Grand Archbishop finds Evelyn covered in wounds and brings her back to the Church.
After returning to the Holy City, Evelyn successfully breaks the blood pact with the help of the Grand Archbishop. Not only does her breathtaking beauty return, but she also awakens as the High Saintess.
Meanwhile, having lost the nourishment of Evelyn’s holy blood, the blood pact within Gareth’s body begins to violently backfire. His flesh starts to rot, and he loses all his divine power.
When Gareth and his family learn that the legendary Holy Saintess has emerged and possesses miraculous healing powers, they kneel humbly before the gates of the temple, begging for salvation.
This time, Evelyn slowly descends from the divine throne.
Looking down at her former husband, who is kneeling at her feet, weeping bitterly and filled with regret, Evelyn lets out a cold laugh.
The sacred flame of vengeance has only just been lit.
