After a bitter family division, a young farm woman moves into the hills with her sick mother and nothing but a ruined house and a dry well. Then she discovers a hidden spring whose water heals illness and makes fruit ripen overnight. Her mother recovers, her peaches become a sensation, and she uses the profits to build roads, improve the village, and create work for her neighbors. Success attracts corrupt merchants determined to seize the orchard, but she answers sabotage with evidence, law, and an ingenious preservation method. With the village doctor she has known since childhood beside her, she turns a discarded patch of land into a future sweeter than anything they imagined.
