After three years of secret research, Professor Anne Rodd, the chief scientist of the National Genetic Engineering Laboratory, broke through U.S. technological blockades and developed the immensely valuable genetic recombinant agent "Genesis Alpha," worth hundreds of millions. She was awarded the "Guardian of the Nation Medal of Science and Technology." On National Day, as her confidentiality agreement expired, she returned home with the medal and generous gifts, eager to share her honor with her family. However, her ex-husband, Mark Barton, desperate to immigrate to the United States, had been ingratiating himself and her sister, Lily, with a "nationally recognized professor," while subjecting the disfigured and down-on-her-luck Anne to utter humiliation.
