On her wedding night, Ashlyn's new husband Owen brutally tortured and murdered her before burying her alive in a bid to seize complete control over the iron mining industry passed through generations of the Lothian family. On the verge of death, the dormant witch bloodline within Ashlyn suddenly awakened. She returned from the dead, swearing vengeance beneath the cold rain. What she did not know yet was that the other mastermind behind this fatal conspiracy was none other than Jocelyn, her own younger sister! Having narrowly escaped death, Ashlyn fled barefoot across the wilderness as the heavy rain abated, wrapped only in bloodstained rags. She encountered the Lady of the Abyss, Lady Nyriel, who offered a helping hand with secrets of her own.
