Beneath the Veneer Episode 1

Series details

Three days. Declan Blackwood, my fiancé, had submerged himself in a silence so profound, it felt less like absence and more like an insidious presence. Then, the casual cruelty: his deliberate agreement to a road trip with Kora Holloway, his assistant. He had anticipated my unraveling, a predictable spiral of jealousy, a performance I had delivered countless times. But the woman he would find upon his return, a month hence, would be fundamentally altered. I no longer abandoned my work, a tempest of pique, when he reassigned my carefully cultivated projects to Kora. Instead, I assisted her, meticulously preparing proposals, each contribution a quiet act of disengagement. I offered no defense, no counter-argument, when he systematically undermined my designs to inflate Kora’s year-end bonus. I simply absorbed the blame, accepted the unjust consequence. There was no flicker of anger when he elevated her to general manager; only a calm relinquishing of my shares, granting him unfettered control. He believed this docility signaled my capitulation, a final breakage to his will. But he had overlooked a critical detail, a bureaucratic oversight that would prove pivotal: he had signed my resignation papers during his month-long absence, his focus entirely consumed by the illusion of new affection. And I, with a chilling clarity, had already severed our engagement. From this juncture, we were strangers, adrift on separate, inevitable currents.
