Death‘s Chosen Bride Episode 1

Series details

The twin younger sister stole her elder sister’s wedding, fiancé, and family identity. Everyone believed that the frail and sickly younger sister was the one foretold to be “the girl who would not live past eighteen.” But Maris, the elder sister, had been able to dream of the God of Death seated upon an obsidian throne since childhood—the kingdom that had never seen daylight had been waiting for her return. She told everyone the truth, yet all she received were accusations of jealousy and even harsher oppression. Whenever the dark moon arrived, her mother would whip her under the guise of “purifying the curse for her sister.” On every full moon night, she was forced to kneel on salt and shattered stones until her knees were torn and bleeding. Her fiancé Adrian gave her wedding silks to her sister, then publicly took credit for her name and blessings while distributing aid beneath the bridge. On the eve of the wedding, she was forced to keep vigil for her sister in a side chapel, listening as Adrian recited his vows to her sister inside the grand cathedral. When the bell struck its twelfth chime, a black gate opened behind her. Maris stepped into the underworld and discovered that she was the Death God’s chosen keeper of records—the one destined to document truths hidden beneath love, facts denied by her family, everything corrupted by false vows, as well as all stolen possessions and unpaid debts. She donned the crown. Her father was dragged before the judgment throne, followed by her mother, and then Adrian. Her former fiancé chased her to the edge of the underworld, begging her to return. She only replied with six words: “Whatever remains is not enough to save you.” Finally came her sister—Ellara. As she placed the stolen necklace around her neck before the mirror, the clasp tightened on its own, cutting into her throat. She was dragged before the judgment platform to face her trial. Maris did not sentence her to death. Instead, she condemned her to live within the “Mirror Chamber,” where day after day she would face the version of herself created from countless stolen things and stolen identities. After every lie collapsed, Maris stood upon the obsidian terrace. The God of Death approached her and said: “Rule the judgment beside me.” His thumb gently brushed across Maris’s knuckles—a question, a promise, and the beginning of something new.
