Divorce Counsel Episode 1

Series details

Elite lawyer Evelyn Smith, known for her unbroken winning streak, returns to her hometown and witnesses childhood friend Susan being abused by her husband, Frank. Moved by Susan and other battered women’s pleas, Evelyn takes their divorce cases—defying warnings to avoid underprivileged clients—even as her firm demands a $10,000 retainer, which the women agree to pay. She succeeds in sending their abusers to jail. But victory turns bitter: Susan and the women renege, calling the cases "too easy," accusing Evelyn of fraud, and demanding refunds. They rally villagers to slander her, resort to violence, and force her family to pay up—leaving her father comatose, mother with a heart attack, and Evelyn imprisoned. To prevent Frank from appealing his conviction, she accepts a two-year sentence, biding her time. Now, post-release, her counterattack begins.
