Series details

On her third wedding anniversary, Elara Voss, a top-tier architect, walks in on her husband Daniel in bed with her closest friend Jessica in their own marital bedroom. Daniel shows not a shred of remorse, while Jessica offers only hollow apologies. Eight years of friendship and three years of marriage collapse in an instant. Calmly slipping off her wedding ring, Elara walks away empty-handed and hires a lawyer to file for divorce the very next day. Yet the harsh terms of her prenuptial agreement mean the unfaithful Daniel can still claim the majority of her assets, and a protracted divorce battle would destroy the professional reputation she has built over years in the industry. With nowhere left to turn, Alexander Blackwood, the reigning head of the elite Blackwood Group conglomerate, presents her with an offer for a contract marriage. Bound by his grandfather’s will, Alexander must marry before his 35th birthday, or the controlling stake of the group will pass to his ambitious cousin Victor, who cares for nothing but selling off the company’s properties. At the same time, his terminally ill mother Catherine’s greatest wish is to see her son settle down and live a steady life. The contract runs for one year: they will pose as a devoted couple in public, while living in separate bedrooms and keeping out of each other’s private lives. When the contract expires, Alexander will take full charge of resolving Elara’s divorce dispute and pay her five million US dollars as compensation. Elara signs the deal, moves into Alexander’s top-floor penthouse duplex, and begins their life of marital pretense. At first, it is all a performance as they navigate business galas, board meetings, and family gatherings. But as the days pass, they gradually lower their guards. Elara takes thoughtful care of Alexander, who works under relentless pressure and often skips meals, preparing food for him. Alexander notices her fatigue, quietly adjusts the apartment to fit her work habits, and steps in at once to shield her when her ex-husband or snobbish socialites try to make things difficult for her. In quiet moments together, they open up about their past wounds. Elara suffered two miscarriages and endured years of belittlement, isolation, and gaslighting from her ex-husband that chipped away at her self-worth. Alexander lost his father when he was young and has been bound by family duty his entire life. A former partner left him because she could not stand always coming second to his career, leaving him emotionally closed off and unable to share his soft side. Alexander’s ailing mother Catherine sees through the transactional nature of their marriage immediately, but she takes a great liking to Elara for her resilience and clear-headedness. She urges Elara not to let her son stay trapped in his emotional shell, becoming a key force in drawing the two closer. Victor, who has long coveted control of the group, secretly hires a private detective to dig up evidence of their fake marriage. At a board meeting, he publicly accuses the pair of a sham marriage, attempting to launch an investigation and seize the controlling stake. No longer willing to endure passively, Elara teams up with Alexander’s assistant Claire to gather solid proof of Victor bribing board members and forging evidence. She exposes his scheme in front of the entire board, completely shattering his plan to seize power. Meanwhile, Catherine’s condition worsens drastically and she is admitted to the intensive care unit. Elara stays by Alexander’s side throughout, helping him care for his mother and soothing his grief. After his mother’s death, Alexander—who has suppressed his feelings for years—breaks down completely, letting go of every last bit of his tough facade in front of Elara. The two finally face the truth: their feelings have long crossed the lines of the contract, and they have already fallen deeply in love. On the eve of the contract’s expiration, Alexander tears up every clause of their agreement and proposes a real, unconditional marriage with no end date and no restraints. Together, they put an end to Daniel’s persistent harassment. Elara joins the development department of the Blackwood Group and leads the creation of an affordable housing project integrated with public green spaces, realizing her long-held architectural ideals. When the one-year contract comes to an end, the two hold an intimate wedding on the rooftop of the building Elara designed with her own hands. They exchange sincere vows that belong only to each other, untouched by profit or transaction. Leaving all constraints behind, they join hands to build a long, peaceful future made just for the two of them.
