Unbeknownst to him, Martha has rigged the whole scene: a special scent‑emitting stone warps perception to escalate the peril. Realizing the horrifying truth, Elliot acts fast to free Laila and unearth the full conspiracy. Decades earlier, Martha swapped newborns amid a hospital blackout. Using Martha’s private diary and hard‑won evidence, Elliot helps expose her crimes of infant‑swapping and attempted murder, leading to her arrest. Haunted by trauma, Laila cannot readily embrace her biological family and leaves town to rebuild her life. One year later, she reaches out to Elliot of her own free will. Supporting her journey of healing, Elliot witnesses her transformation into a resilient independent illustrator. The story concludes with an open‑ended finale. It focuses on a man’s fight against a devious mastermind, the pursuit of justice, and two survivors overcoming deep scars side‑by‑side.
