The Placeholder Wife Episode 1

Series details

Evelyn Moore's true identity is the sole heir to the Sterling Group, a hundred-billion-dollar business empire. Three years ago, she concealed her wealthy background and married Nathan Cross, an ambitious rising business star, as an ordinary girl. Yearning for genuine love untainted by wealth, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to their marriage. On the night of their third wedding anniversary, holding a positive pregnancy test report, she prepared to share the happy news with her husband — only to accidentally overhear him conspiring with Sophia, her best friend from college. It turned out she had been nothing more than a pawn Nathan used to get close to the Sterling Group. Once he secured a major partnership contract with Sterling, he planned to serve her a pre-drafted divorce agreement and kick her out with a meager compensation. Completely heartbroken, Evelyn stopped clinging to the sham marriage. She contacted her family to reactivate her identity as the Sterling heir. Secretly gathering all evidence of Nathan's hidden offshore accounts and falsified financial statements, she left a signed divorce agreement, quietly departed the mansion, and returned to the Sterling Group to take the reins. When Nathan discovered Evelyn had vanished, he simultaneously learned that a new leader had emerged at the Sterling Group — and that their $4.2 billion core partnership contract was under full review. Only then did he realize the wife he had dismissed as a nameless substitute was Sterling's true heir. Nathan tried to win her back, to negotiate, but Evelyn rejected every attempt. Driven by greed, Sophia sold their past secrets to tabloids, dragging Nathan thoroughly into the mire of public scandal. Sterling's audit exposed massive financial irregularities at the Cross Group; the company's stock plummeted, debts erupted across the board, and Nathan's career and reputation collapsed simultaneously. Evelyn raised their daughter Charlotte alone, restructured the Sterling Group, expanded into entirely new business territories, and lived as an independent, powerful leader. In the aftermath, Nathan fell into destitution, begging only to be near his child. Evelyn chose neither forgiveness nor reconciliation — for the sake of their daughter alone, she set strict custody and visitation terms, leaving the final choice to the child when she grew up. She let go of past pain, holding her career and her daughter close, and found her own peaceful, fulfilling life.
