Three months later, Brinley, now a successful CEO, attends a gala where Austin publicly defends her against Colin and Milly. They move into Austin's villa, and Brinley tries to set boundaries for their marriage of convenience, but Austin's unexpected kindness and teasing confuse her. She wins a major bid against Colin. Austin falls ill from eating her bad cooking, and she cares for him, feeling guilty. During a family visit, Brinley navigates Moore family politics, and she and Austin share a room. Brinley learns their marriage is a long-standing promise due to her mother saving Austin's mother. Austin confesses he's loved her since he was fourteen. Brinley, initially wary, finds herself increasingly drawn to Austin's protective and affectionate nature.
