Series details

On the day Chen Xi is supposed to marry her fiancé Lu Huai'an, his teaching assistant sends a pregnancy test. Lu Huai'an abandons her at the civil affairs bureau without hesitation. He moves Zhou Yuqing into their home, demands Chen Xi cook for his pregnant mistress, and even physically assaults her when she protests. Heartbroken but clear-eyed, Chen Xi makes a bold decision. She calls her childhood friend Shen Muchuan—a man who has loved her silently for ten years—and asks him to marry her on the spot. He says yes without hesitation. When Chen Xi finally breaks things off, Lu Huai'an assumes she'll come crawling back. Instead, she reclaims everything she gave him. She withdraws funding from his lab, cancels his research sponsorships, and reveals the truth about his parasitic dependency on her family's money. At a high-society charity gala, Shen Muchuan publicly exposes Lu Huai'an as a freeloader and has him thrown out. Desperate, Zhou Yuqing fakes a miscarriage to frame Chen Xi for assault. But Shen Muchuan's legal team presents video evidence of the setup, clearing Chen Xi's name and exposing Zhou Yuqing's fraud. Meanwhile, Lu Huai'an's academic fraud is exposed at a major conference, destroying his career forever. As Lu Huai'an spirals into alcoholism and violence, Zhou Yuqing aborts the baby and leaves him. Lu Huai'an ends up arrested after a drunken bar brawl, while Chen Xi marries Shen Muchuan in a spectacular wedding—finally receiving the love, respect, and protection she always deserved. In the end, she traded a parasite for a partner—and found her true happily ever after.
